German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama try virtual reality glasses at an industrial technology fair in Hanover, Germany.
US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel took time to try out Google Cardboard virtual reality headset equipped with pmdtechnologies CamBoard pico flex, all part of Google’s Project Tango. Princeton Optronics Inc, is an active participant in Project Tango.
Project Tango is led by Johnny Lee of Google and commenting in a recent YouTube video he said “We are physical beings that live in a 3D world. Yet mobile devices today assume that the physical world ends at the boundaries of the screen. Our goal is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.”
As a participant Project Tango Princeton Optronics Inc has developed special light sources, namely Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser Arrays, which match very well with the overall technology requirements.
3D imaging technology, based on Time-of-Flight and other detection techniques and powered by highly efficient VCSEL arrays, is moving into many smartphones, tablets, virtual reality, surveillance cameras, robotics, and people counting systems. VCSEL technology is stepping up to the next level of industry recognition, resulting in further cost reduction and performance improvement.
